Team announces town’s 80s festival is postponed

-

THE team behind Ymlaen Llanelli (BID, Business Improvement District) have made the inevitable decision to postpone their next scheduled town centre event.

Saturday, June 27, should have seen the popular Llanelli 80s Festival and Armed Forces Day event.

But a spokesman for Ymlaen Llanelli said this week: “We’ve held off on making an official announcement, but our Llanelli 80s Festival and Armed Forces Day event has been called off for now. After many discussions, we’ve agreed that we simply cannot hold the event safely in any manner.”

The spokesman added: “This year’s festival was shaping up to be the biggest and best yet and we’re gutted we can’t bring it to you. This is one of our favourite events and we know a lot of you feel the same.

“We hope it won’t be too much longer before we can start holding events and bringing the community together in person once again.

“In the meantime, please continue to support our town centre businesses and spread the word as they begin to re-open!”

The Ymlaen Llanelli calendar for this year still includes events such as the Gar Gwyl Festival on Saturday, August 1, Llanelli Food and Drink Festival on Saturday, October 17, Jurassic Halloween in the town centre on Wednesday, October 28 and Llanelli Reindeer Parade on Saturday, December 5.

The Ymlaen

Llanelli team wil be reviewing each event’s status as the lockdown restrictions are gradually lifted.

Meanwhile, on the business front, the Ymlaen Llanelli team have been developing the Ymlaen Llanelli Reopening Package. This is a support package available for free to all BID levy-paying businesses.

A spokesman for Ymlaen Llanelli said: “Included in our package are social distancing floor stickers, 600 x 800mm sneeze guards for counters (one per business), 200ml bottles of hand sanitiser (two per business) and A4 Covid-19 checklist display posters.

“To organise a package for your business, please email the quantities of stickers and posters needed to mandy.jenkins@themeans.co.uk.
