FAMILY LEFT DEVASTATED BY GARDEN BLAZE

A LLANELLI mum-of-two has said that she’s been left terrified after coming home and finding her garden on fire.

Seren Palethrope, 24, said she was out with her children when she received a phone call from her mum who lives on the same street saying that there were flames coming from the garden.

The family have said that they feel very lucky that they were out at the time of the blaze as the fire was where their two-yearold child is usually playing.

“My mother phoned and said the fence was on fire and I came home expecting something small and couldn’t believe it when I saw the huge flames and smoke - I’m just so thankful and relieved that we weren’t at home at the time,” said Seren.

The family’s garden is connected to a public footpath where the fire is believed to have started.

“There’s a huge boat that has been dumped on the footpath that has been there for at least 10 years and someone set the boat on fire which caught on to the fence and then destroyed most of the garden,” added Ms Palethrope.

“Because of the nice weather we’ve been spending so much time in the garden and my son is always on the trampoline which has been completely destroyed, so I dread to think what would’ve happened if we were at home.”

The family’s garden, which has been a haven for Seren and her sevenyear-old and two-year-old during the lockdown has been destroyed and the family have said that they are worried for their safety.

“The footpath behind the house is really public so I’m constantly worried that someone is watching me, anybody could come in.

“We can’t let the dogs out in the garden, the kids can’t play outside – it’s been really frightening because I still don’t know if it was a malicious attack,” added the mum, who lives in Morfa in Llanelli.

The fire brigade were in attendance and the family have reported the incident to the police.

A police spokesman said: “Dyfed-Powys Police received a call on Monday morning, June 1, reporting that a fence fire had occurred at a property in Pen Y Morfa, Llanelli on Saturday, May 30.”

The spokesman added: “Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
