THE MOST-USED APPS IN LOCKDOWN

NEW research from Carphone Warehouse reveals which apps we’re using and talking about the most during lockdown.

The company analysed how often apps were mentioned on Twitter, and what kind of accompanying emoji was posted with the mention, to gauge how we feel about the apps we’re using most right now.

It won’t be a surprise to learn that there has been a surge in chatter about video conferencing tools like Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Houseparty.

It would seem also that we’re using the extra time some of us are now enjoying to learn a new skill – language learning app Duolingo is getting a lot of love.

Perhaps in an effort to deal with the lockdown, meditation apps like Headspace and Calm are also being talked about.

The most popular apps by mentions on Twitter were: Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Houseparty, Disney+, Duolingo, Headspace, Calm and Nextdoor.

Carphone Warehouse has broken down all its data with lots of analysis here: carphoneware house.com/mobiles/mobile-appsand-emotions.

And it makes for very interesting reading.

TWITTER CONTINUES ITS EVOLUTION

TWITTER continues to add options to its service as it tries to rise to the challenge of reducing the amount of abuse, fakery, and all-round irritation in the social space.

A new feature being trialled at the moment is the ability to control who is able to reply to your tweets.

With this feature enabled, you can set one of three different levels of possible interaction when you tweet.

You can set it so that anyone can reply to it (the current option and the default), limit replies to only people you follow, or only allow people mentioned in the tweet to reply.

This will make it easier to streamline conversions, and not have people joining in that you’d rather not. In short, it seems like a great way to drown out some of the noise.

If people want to start their open conversation about your tweet, they can still retweet it with a comment. Standard retweeting and liking is also possible.
