Village salute to late prince Both Welsh and Union Jack flags flew at half mast from the Pontyberem Memorial Hall in sympathetic tribute on the passing of Prince Philip, 99, and the sorrow of the Queen and royal family. Over the decades assorted locals have taken part in the youth-orientated Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme since its inception in 1956.

Trouble at banks Scores of bags containing glass and clothes for recycling have been strewn around the over-filled container banks in Pontyberem Park. As lockdown has eased and the weather has improved, far more households seem to be recycling items. Some feel the matter has not been helped by the county council’s recent removal of the glass recycling bank in neighbouring Bancffosfelen. It is hoped that a more regular collection service will resolve the unsightly problem.

Polling station The Memorial Hall is the polling station for the May 6 elections to the Senedd and for the post of Dyfed-Powys Police Commissioner. Voters are reminded that Covid indoor safety restrictions will apply and each voter must bring their own pen or pencil to mark their ballot papers.
