Leisure centres reopen after easing
LEISURE centres across Carmarthenshire reopened on Monday following the Welsh Government’s easing of Covid-19 restrictions.
Carmarthenshire Council reopened its leisure centres in Carmarthen, Llanelli, Ammanford, Newcastle Emlyn and St Clears. People also got their first glimpse of the new leisure centre that has opened in Llandovery.
The council’s Actif team were looking forward to welcoming people back to see the new and improved facilities that have been put in place during the extended closure.
They include the latest fitness technology and installation of new screens, allowing people to take part in many more virtual classes with Actif instructors no matter where they are across the leisure centre locations.
Brand new fitness equipment has been installed at Newcastle Emlyn leisure centre.
Customers will also
enjoy improvements at individual centres, including Carmarthen where a new eight-lane athletic track provides first-class facilities for sprint training and field event disciplines such as javelin, high jump and hammer, as well as improved tennis courts.
And new café furniture and decor further enhances the social areas of the centre.
In Amman Valley leisure centre, people can make use of refurbished changing rooms and toilet areas, as well as additional rest and social areas which have had a makeover.
Improvements have also been made in the leisure centre grounds, including extended and enhanced car parking and pedestrianised areas in Carmarthen, and the installation of bike shelters for customers to secure their own.
The public will also be able to use a range of e-bikes that will be available to hire in the near future in Llanelli, Amman
Valley and Carmarthen leisure centres.
Carmarthenshire Council’s head of leisure Ian Jones said his team were looking forward to supporting people back to their leisure centres.
“We can’t wait to see our leisure centres open again and to welcome back familiar faces and new members who I’m sure will enjoy a range of new facilities we’ve been working hard to deliver during lockdown,” he said.
“We know how much people have missed their leisure centres, and our staff have certainly missed seeing people too.
“We want to reassure our members and guests that we have worked diligently to ensure they can return and visit safely.
“We have robust Covid19 safety measures in place and our leisure centres will be carefully managed to keep everyone safe.”
Leisure centres are restarting even more sessions and activities in line with Welsh Government guidelines, including gyms for individual sessions, lane swimming in the pools, one-to-one swimming lessons, indoor fitness classes and organised indoor sports bookings for up to 15 people.
Free outdoor fitness classes and sessions for tennis, sports and athletics track are already taking place and will continue to be available, but spaces are limited and must be booked in advance.
