Collins set to return?

-

FORMER Scarlets star Michael Collins looks to be on his way back to Welsh rugby.

Wales-qualified through a grandfather from Llanelli, he spent time with the Scarlets in 2015-16 under Wayne Pivac before heading back to New Zealand.

Now the Ospreys are set to confirm a deal to bring him back to Wales.

It’s thought Pivac is supportive of the idea of the 27-year-old Highlanders utility back and Otago captain returning to the regional scene.

Potentially, he could put his hand up for Wales heading towards the next World Cup in 2023. With 50 games of Super Rugby and Super Rugby Aotearoa behind him, split between the Blues and the Highlanders, Collins isn’t short of pedigree.

He can play at full-back, centre or wing, offering cover, quality and experience.

In 2018, he said: “My granddad is a passionate Welshman. Having played there for over a year it’s given me the ambition to represent Wales.”
