Labour tops the polls in town council by-election

LABOUR won the Elli seat on Llanelli Town Council’s by-election.

As people went to the polls last Thursday, Llanelli was also voting for the one vacant seat on the town council and two seats on Llanelli Rural Council.

Topping the poll for Llanelli Town Council was Nick Pearce for Labour who took the Elli ward seat with 459 votes.

The full results for Llanelli Town Council were: Nick Pearce (Labour) 459 votes; Gareth Huw Snaith (Plaid) 289 votes; Anthony Lesley Aubrey (Conservati­ves) 212 votes; Colin Jones (Independen­t) 135 votes; Jonathan Edward

Burree (Liberal Democrats) 48 votes.

At Llanelli Rural Council the two vacant seats on the Pemberton ward saw Labour’s Christophe­r Phillip Beer elected with 513 votes and Independen­t Samantha Kate Nurse elected with 491 votes.

Liberal Democrat Jonathan Edward Burree was also fighting for a seat on this council, as well as for Llanelli Town Council.

The full results for Llanelli Rural Council were: Christophe­r Phillip Beer (Labour) 513 votes; Samantha Kate Nurse (Independen­t) 491 votes; Theressa Bowen (Labour) 482 votes; Sean Dixon (Independen­t) 426 votes; Jonathan Edward Burree (Liberal Democrats) 79 votes.

Another election could be held this month as Llanelli Rural Council has confirmed there is a further vacant seat in the Pemberton ward.

A notice was posted on Monday, May 10, by the council and states an election could take place within 14 days if there is enough interest.

If there is not interest from prospectiv­e candidates then the vacancy will be filled by being coopted by the council.
