Running pair raise cash for reflection garden
TWO members of staff at Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli, are raising funds to create a reflection garden.
Sioned Howells and Santi Wassel ran from Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen to Prince Philip Hospital which is approximately 18.7 miles to raise money for the cause.
Having both worked on the hospital’s Covid-19 ward during the pandemic, they have decided to fundraise towards creating a garden for patients and staff to take time out and relax.
The garden will provide a sense of peace and tranquillity, which is much needed after the difficult 14 months they have had to face throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sioned, who is a sister on the elective orthopaedics ward, said: “Having worked on the Covid-19 wrd during the pandemic we are raising money for a reflection garden for staff and patients.
“It will be a place to remembering the ones we lost and for families who sadly lost a family member to Covid-19. As we are both keen runners, we thought it would be a great idea to run from Glangwili Hospital to Prince Philip Hospital raising money and getting our weekly Sunday long run in at the same time.”
Santi Wassel, who is a health care support worker on Ward 1 at Prince Philip Hospital, said: “I
came to Wales with my wife 20 years ago and we stayed as we fell in love with this country.
“When I was furloughed last year, I wanted to help and do something for the community, so I applied for a job in the NHS.
“I started working in the community and moved to Ward 1 in
December.
“I’ve never done a job more fulfilling than this one, I wish I found it earlier in life.”
