Rewards for loyal shoppers as new scheme is launched

LLANELLI town centre regulars are set to be rewarded for shopping local as the Love Llanelli Loyalty Card scheme begins next week.

More than 45 independent businesses are signed up to the new initiative from Ymlaen Llanelli, the town’s Business Improvement District (Bid).

The scheme will run from June 1 to July 1 and will see customers who complete their cards receive a £20 gift voucher.

The scheme is simple: collect a sticker for your loyalty card when you spend a minimum of £10 at a participating business.

When five stickers have been collected from five different businesses, the card can be exchanged at Llanelli Library for a £20 gift voucher to spend at any of the participating businesses.

Ymlaen Llanelli chair Lesley Richards said the initiative is an exciting step forward for the town: “We’ve had this idea on the back burner for some time, so it’s great to finally get the ball rolling.

“With non-essential retail and indoor hospitality now reopened, we thought it was the perfect time to introduce a loyalty card as a thank you from us to our loyal customers. We are forever grateful for their continued support.”

The gift vouchers will be eligible for redemption in one transaction before September 1, and if successful, the month-long trial will be the beginning of what’s hoped to become a regular feature in the town centre, with the scheme planned to make a return at key shopping periods throughout the year.

Bid manager Mandy Jenkins is pleased with the response so far.

She said: “Businesses have been thrilled at the prospect of a loyalty scheme and we can’t wait for it to start.

“While we’ve been unable to hold our events programme, we’ve been busy finding all different ways to support businesses through the pandemic and so we hope this initiative will be a transitional one, giving customers an incentive to shop local and support our town centre as things get back on track.”

Ymlaen Llanelli is also working with Carmarthenshire Markets to host a monthly food market every third Saturday of the month, bringing in a host of food stalls that will add to the existing Llanelli Outdoor Market.

This market is due to begin on Saturday, June 19, and will continue on a monthly basis indefinitely, restrictions allowing.
