LLANELLI WIN TO SIT AT THE TOP

LLANELLI head the South Wales Cricket Associatio­n division one table after four rounds of matches after they won by 121 runs at Gowerton.

Llanelli made 174-8 before Gowerton were skittled out for just 53.

Steven Devonald hit seven fours and a six as his 84 was the mainstay of the Llanelli innings, aided by 28 from Matthew Roberts.

Callum Eakins took 3-32 and Chris Mason 2-18.

Gowerton then had only Lee Nicholas (10) and Bevan Daniels (19) in double figures as Alex Symmons (535) scythed through the order.

Devonald chipped in with 2-1 off three balls at the end.

Maesteg are second after their fivewicket win at town neighbours Maesteg Celtic, while Dafen Welfare are third after a 43-run success at Tata Steel in Port Talbot.

Dafen opener Simon Holliday hit 80, backed up by skipper Matthew Evans (27), as the visitors made 155-7 in their 50 overs.

David Jones (4-31) and Nathan Ferrell (2-18) were the only bowlers to take wickets, though Kelvin Bartle’s 10 overs yielded just nine runs.

Tata slumped to 13-3 in their reply, and although Martin Lewis (29) and Rhys Owen (25) brought respectabi­lity to their score, they were all out for 112 in 39.4 overs. Josh Simmons took 3-24, Matthew Evans 2-22 and Matthew Donoghue 3-13.

Only three points separate the top three.

Llangennec­h are fifth after beating visitors Skewen by three wickets.

Division two was affected by the rainfall, with Aberdare v Drefach, Felinfoel v Morriston and Swansea Civil Service v Briton Ferry Steel all not seeing any play.

Julian Griffiths scored more than half of their total with a fine 77 not out, and Phil Harries took 3-32.

Pontardawe beat Kidwelly Town by nine wickets. The Gwendraeth Valley side were all out for 33, with Mark Jones taking 4-7 and Jason Rourke 3-18.

In division five, new leaders Skewen Seconds (183-6) beat Llandysul Seconds (122 all out) by 61 runs.
