Eight-year-old best friends go the extra mile for hospital

-

TWO eight-year-old best friends from Pontyberem have raised a fantastic £2,110 for Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen.

Macsen Harris and Elis Eynon ran a mile a day for 28 days at their village park because they wanted to support their local health service during the Covid-19 pandemic.

They ran in rain, ice and even snow earlier this year, and were determined to see the challenge through.

There was a JustGiving page for people to donate money to and now a cheque has now been handed over by the eager runners to hospital staff.

Macsen said: “I decided to run a mile a day for 28 days for Hywel Dda Health Charities because I wanted to help local people through Covid-19.”

Elis said he wanted to help his best friend Macsen with his fundraising and “raise some money to say a big thank you for all the hard work the staff have done and continue to do with the pandemic and also because my sister has to regularly visit the hospital for her check-ups.”

Glangwili Hospital service manager Caryl Bowen said: “Glangwili Hospital was delighted to receive a cheque presented by Macsen and Elis.

“Having been inspired by Captain Tom Moore, Macsen decided he wanted to do something similar and raise funds to help people during the pandemic.

“He took it upon himself to run a mile a day and was hoping to raise a couple of hundred pounds.

“They have raised a considerable amount of money and they are apparently looking at the next challenge already.”
