Town’s summer trail set to be a roaring success

- JADE EVANS journal.star@walesonline.co.uk

GET ready to travel back in time this month as the Summer Dinosaur Trail begins in Llanelli.

Eight dinosaurs will be lurking in businesses’ windows across the town centre for the school summer holidays in a Jurassic trail organised by Ymlaen Llanelli, the town’s Business Improvement District (BID).

Pick up a trail map from St Elli Shopping Centre and set off in search of the dinosaurs’ names – find all eight and take your completed map to Jenkins Bakery in Stepney Precinct for a free dinothemed treat, and be entered into the draw for the chance to win a bike!

The trail begins on Monday and ends on Wednesday, with a winner to be drawn and contacted shortly after the closing date.

Richards said the prehistoric trail would help kick-start the summer fun in the town centre.

She said: “We can’t wait to get the trail started! As restrictions ease, we want to help people reconnect with their town centre and bring that spark back.

“Ymlaen Llanelli BID is known for our wacky and wonderful events programme, so while we can’t get back to events just yet, this really fits the bill! Where else would you find a T-Rex browsing the shops?”

In addition to the Summer Dinosaur Trail, Ymlaen Llanelli has been working on a number of ongoing initiatives.

The BID launched a trial month of its Love Llanelli Loyalty Card

Scheme in June, and following its success, has announced an extension of the scheme until August 1.

The scheme sees customers collect a sticker when they spend over £10 at participating businesses, and when five stickers have been collected from five different businesses, the completed card can be exchanged at Llanelli Library for a £20 gift voucher to spend at participating businesses.

Saturday will also see the second venture of the Llanelli Monthly Food Market in the town centre, with a range of products on offer from local traders, in collaboration with Carmarthenshire Markets.

Ymlaen Llanelli BID manager Mandy Jenkins is pleased to see the town recovering.

She said: “Our main goal at the moment is to help Llanelli town centre come back better than before, and we’re thrilled to see our work is paying off. Lots of loyalty cards are being redeemed and gift vouchers exchanged, and the amount of people who turned out to support our first monthly food market was phenomenal.

“We’re excited to welcome more than double the number of traders to the second edition, and we think people will love our summer trail. People really want to support their town centre, and it’s great to see them doing just that.”

The Summer Dinosaur Trail runs for the whole summer holidays.
