Historical Society The Pembrey and Burry Port Historical Society has resumed activities. Please note we now meet in the Ashburham Hotel at 7pm on the second Tuesday in the month.

Cefn Sidan U3A Some meetings for July have started in the main Memorial Hall if inside, not the Pensioners Hall, so that social distancing can be observed. Masks should be worn where possible. Today is the coffee morning at 10.45am. Please bring your own cup or mug and remember to take it home again and respect social distancing. Thursday, July 15, the luncheon club are going to the Cofio Lounge, Carmarthen, at 1pm. Friday, July 16, is the cycle group meeting at 10.30am at the Blue Mussels at the harbour. Monday, July 19, is the main meeting at 2.15pm but no informatio­n on a speaker at time of going to print. Tuesday, July 20, at 10.30am is the Welsh history meeting but again no informatio­n on a speaker. Further details to follow for the rest of month. There is Welsh conversati­on every Friday afternoon at 2pm. Inside meetings now take place in the main Memorial Hall. New members will be most welcome. Self-help and Meditation Group Looking to make new friendship­s and help each other with living your life and also benefiting for relaxing and destressin­g with meditation? New fitness classes These are at Canolfan John Burns Centre, Kidwelly, are as follows: Thursday, July 15 at noon, chair fitness (45 minutes) – a low impact, slow and controlled exercise class that is designed to improve an individual’s mobility, balance and strength. Dependent on ability, you may remain seated throughout or incorporat­e some leg exercise using the chair as support (£2pp subsidised by a grant from CAVS). Thursday, July 15 at 1pm, HIIT, £4pp - HIIT is high intensity interval training. It’s a cardio-based training session designed to improve fitness levels, increase heart rate and over time help to improve body compositio­n. It consists of short bursts of exercise with minimum rest. This class will be programmed to suit all fitness abilities. These classes will be taught by Nia Harries. Food Forward Food Boxes Collaborat­ing with Fairshare and Pembrey and Burry Port Town Council, Food Forward Burry Port is a Lotteryfun­ded project which will support residents in your area. The following changes are to be made for those who attend the CBSA Community Store at the senior citizens hall, Burry Port. The opening times are every Tuesday between 11am and 5pm. Do you need to stretch your food budget a little further each week? Do you know someone who is finding times hard? £1 a year for membership then each week you will have the option of spending £3.50 or £5 for goods worth between £15-£20. No referrals required. CBSA is supported by Faireshare Cymru, Morrisons and Burry Port Co-op. Call in on Tuesday to see what it’s all about. Our volunteers would love to meet you. Recycle your garden pots Drop them in the collection tub in the Memorial Hall car park provided by the town council.They will re-use them to provide flowers for the community or if you need some then help yourself.

Kidwelly & Mynyddygar­reg in Bloom 2021 There will be four categories – best garden with frontage over 25ft; best garden with frontage under 25ft; best container garden; best hanging basket display. The competitio­n is open to all residents of Kidwelly and Mynyddygar­reg. For those wishing to enter, forms will be available from Castle News, Bridge Street, Kidwelly Post Office, Station Road, and Chris Jones, Kidwelly Horticultu­ral Society. Judging to take place on Saturday, July 24.

Kidwelly Senior Citizens If things keep progressin­g forward with Covid restrictio­ns, we hope to return to holding our meetings on Wednesday, September 1, at the normal time of 2pm to 4pm at the rugby club. A risk assessment will be undertaken by the committee prior to this and we would appreciate if members can advise by August 20 at the latest if they wish to attend by contacting either Bobbie 890520, Jackie 891399 or Janet 890197. We ask that you please bring your own drink and cups as the kitchen will not be in use. This meeting will be for a well overdue catch-up and to discuss how we wish to proceed.

Kidwelly Walking Group Meet every Thursday at 10.15am at Glan yr Afon car park (just off the Town bridge) except for the first Thursday of the month when it will be at 10.30am at Burry Port car park adjacent to the bus station over the railway bridge. We offer to two types of walks: short walks are usually on the fringes of Kidwelly or Burry Port and are generally flat, on good surfaces and a maximum of two hours.
