KIDWELLY BAG AWAY VICTORY
TWO West Wales teams have made it through to the second round of the Welsh Bowling Association National Club Championship.
Kidwelly Town travelled to Cwmbran Park and returned with a 32-shot victory, giving them a trip to either Llantrisant or Aberystwyth in the next stage.
They will be joined by Burry Port, who had a first-round bye and will host Briton Ferry Steel.
Loughor suffered a one-shot loss at Barry Romilly, and Havelock Park were defeated by eight shots playing at home to Beaufort.
Graig Merthyr and Crusaders lost by more sizeable scores.
In the Llanelli & District Bowling League, Saturday was definitely the day of the underdog.
In the Premier division, bottom club Ammanford Park were up against Llanelli and produced their first win of the season on the final end of the match when home skip Ross Davies ditched the jack to pick up six shots and win the contest by four.
Carmarthen, who have struggled all season, visited Parc y Dre and returned home having taken maximum points.
Division one proved to be no different.
There is no match for Carmarthen in the league this week as they hold their open day for new members on July 17.
Competitive action will resume on July 21 when they host Dafen Welfare for the first time this season.
Leaders Burry Port suffered a two-shot loss at home to New Lodge, while second-placed Calsonic Wanderers lost at home against Blue Anchor, who were also delivering their first win this year.
Division two was a little more predictable. Top club Ty’rfran demolished visiting Pontarddulais and there were wins for Parc William and Llangennech & Bryn.
In the National County matches held last week, the County Championship side were put to the sword by Monmouthshire at Beaufort.
However, the seniors started their bid for glory with a big win at Bridgend against Vale of Glamorgan.
This week the seniors are seeking to cement their position in the table in a home match at Carmarthen against South Glamorgan.
Carmarthen County competitions have reached an important stage as the semi-finals are taking place at Parc Howard this week.
Semi-final winners of the individual disciplines will progress to the National finals at Llandrindod Wells in September.
