Sloppy Cwm made to pay heavy price

-

CWMAMMAN United suffered a heavy 5-1 home defeat by Pontyclun in Ardal League South West.

It was actually a very competitive game, but high-flying Pontyclun had the edge thanks to their clinical finishing.

Cwm conceded after five minutes when Carter Campbell tapped home, leaving goalkeeper Kai Rees with no chance.

The bigger Pontyclun side played some nice one-touch football and with the Cwm defence a little hesitant in closing him down, James Gronow fired a scorcher into the roof of the net from the edge of the box in the 30th minute to double the advantage.

Cwm enjoyed a good period of play with Ross Morgan to the fore. Ryan Hurlow saw a fine attempt saved, while the ball fell free in the box from a corner but no Cwm player could connect cleanly.

Cwm looked for a way back into the contest after the break, with Morgan and new signing Scott Jewell showing up well. But Pontyclun began to take control, and following two fine saves by Rees they added a third via Joel Woodington.

Cwm pulled one back when a rasping shot from Hurlow rebounded off the bar for Ryan Thomas to tap home. But any hopes of a comeback were extinguished when a cross reached Campbell and he headed home his second and Pontyclun’s fourth.

Both sides rang the changes, with Luke Sherbon making his first appearance of the season, and it looked like the scoring was done until Campbell had the last word, sealing his hat-trick in the 85th minute.

Cwm entertain Penydarren BGC under the lights at Grenig Park on Friday night.

Garden Village drew 1-1 with Ton Pentre. Dorian Sweet opened the scoring for Ton Pentre in a game that saw nine yellow cards. It took Garden Village until the 90th minute to equalise through second-half substitute Tobias Jones.
