More fun to come over half-term holiday

-

FAMILIES across Carmarthenshire are continuing to enjoy a winter full of funpacked activities hosted by Carmarthenshire Council, with more fun to come during halfterm.

The council secured more than £360,000 from the Welsh Government’s Winter of Wellbeing initiative to deliver a range of activities designed to get people active and reconnecting with each other as they emerge from the pandemic.

So far, thousands of people have enjoyed free access to pantomimes, theatre productions, art sessions, physical activity, soft play and country parks, including a popular Christmas illuminations trail at Pembrey Country Park.

And the fun will continue over the school half-term holidays, starting from next Monday (February 21).

Pembrey Country Park will be hosting free recreational skiing sessions at its dry slope, as well as free cycle hire, toboggan rides and a cookery school.

The council’s theatres will be giving away free tickets for a selection of exciting shows, including a showing of Theatre Royal Bath’s Josephine at Llanelli’s Ffwrnes, and Carmarthen Youth Opera’s production of Grease at the Lyric Theatre. Carmarthenshire leisure centres will be hosting a variety of free sessions including a holiday club, soft play, mini netball, football and hockey sessions, themed parties, swimming pool inflatables and more.

The Winter of Wellbeing initiative, funded by the Welsh Government, aims to support the social, emotional and physical wellbeing of children and young people, helping families re-engage with society, reconnect with friends and rediscover their favourite hobbies as Wales phases out Covid-19 restrictions.

Councillor Peter Hughes Griffiths, the council’s cabinet member for culture, sport and tourism, said: “We have already welcomed thousands of people to our free activities over the winter and look forward to seeing more families over the half-term week. We have so much going on at our country parks, theatres, leisure centres and communities, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”

Access to the free Winter of Wellbeing activities is on a first come, first served basis.
