Couple raise hospital funds in son’s memory
A LLANELLI couple have raised £4,510 for Carmarthen’s Glangwili Hospital in memory of their muchloved baby son Harrison Joshua.
Sophie Phelps and Josh Simmons donated to the hospital’s maternity and bereavement services, including Ystafell Pila Pala, the maternity bereavement suite where the couple were able to spend precious time with their son.
Sophie said: “The legacy of Harrison Joshua will live on in Ystafell Pili Pala at Glangwili Hospital.
“This dedicated suite allowed us to spend time with Harrison away from the busy labour ward to recover and grieve in private.
“The team were all so loving and gave us the strength to deliver Harrison, knowing we wouldn’t be bringing him home.
“We want to say special thanks to bereavement midwives Anwen and Heulwen.”
She added: “We were immediately inundated with support from family and friends, and requested donations be made in Harrison’s memory in lieu of funeral flowers to ensure other families receive the same phenomenal level of professional support we continue to receive.
“We have been overwhelmed by the love and support we have received, which has given us so much comfort during this unimaginably difficult time, knowing how much Harrison was loved.”
Sharon Clement-Thomas, interim deputy head of midwifery, said: “We are very grateful to Sophie and Josh for the generous donation in commemoration of their beautiful son Harrison Joshua.
“The donation will help fund us support parents who face the heartache of losing a baby in a number of ways, including funding further specialist training for midwives and doctors to provide bereavement support for families.
“We also intend to put a memorial tree in the maternity unit.”
