Rural council elect new chairman
LLANELLI Rural Council members elected Cllr (Anthony) Giles Morgan as chairman at their annual meeting.
Cllr Morgan was first elected to Llanelli Rural Council in June, 2004.
He stands as an Independent member for Swiss Valley.
Cllr Morgan also represents Swiss Valley on Carmarthenshire Council.
He has previously served as leader of the council.
Cllr Morgan’s consort will be his wife, Claire. They have two sons, Daniel and Jack, who were there to support their father when he took office at the council’s annual meeting.
Cllr Morgan lives in Oaklands, Swiss Valley, Llanelli.
He has served on the following committees for Llanelli Rural Council: Civic and Ceremonial; Community Development Grants Panel; Finance and General Purposes; Learning and Development Consultative; Planning and Liaison; Policy and Resources; Recreation and Welfare.
He has also represented the council on the Ty Bryngwyn Hospice Fund Raising Committee.
Cllr Morgan said: “I am extremely honoured to be the chair of Llanelli
Rural Council for the coming year.
“I have represented Swiss Valley on the council since 2004 and I’m delighted to take up this important role.
“I couldn’t do this role, of course, without the help and support of my wife and two sons, for which I am thankful. Following the local elections, we have many new faces bringing fresh ideas to the council chamber. Llanelli Rural Council is a forward-looking community council with a ‘can do’ spirit for its residents.
“It’s an exciting time for my wife and I, and we will enjoy visiting Llanelli Rural Council’s many communities in the coming year, and meeting lots of new people.”
