PARC Howard in Llanelli is gearing up for bumper day of celebrations on Saturday, June 4, to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The park will host a full day of music and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy between 11am and 6pm and entry is free.

It has been organised by the Parc Howard Association with support from Llanelli Town Council.

Events officer for the association,

Susanne Thomas, said the day promises to attract a large number of people.

She added: “It has been months in the planning and we have been helped greatly by Llanelli Town Council.

“We have four zones in the park with the entertainment and music spread out. All we need is for the weather to be good and everyone is really looking forward to it. From the association’s point of view it has been a real team effort.”

A main stage of entertainment will see performances by Llanelli Ukuleles, Llanelli Wind Band and Meibion Elli, along with Dynamite Dance, The Phil Harmonics and Dennis Lynch.

Meanwhile the park’s main field will have fairground rides, performances by Circus Eruption, as well as garden games and an assault course.

Mrs Thomas added: “There really will be something for all ages to enjoy.

“We will have craft stalls and also Llanelli fire brigade will be there doing demonstrations, as well as a wide selection of food and refreshment on offer.”

On the first day of the jubilee celebrations more than 1,500 beacons will be lit across the UK and the Commonwealth on the evening of Thursday, June 2.

Llanelli will also be lighting a beacon that night and the ceremony is being organised by the Llanelli Veterans Association and will take place at the town’s Festival Fields at 9.45pm.

The lighting of beacons is a longrunning jubilee tradition and was a key feature of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1897.
