Wanderers offer extra help

CARMARTHEN Wanderers Seconds are still looking for their first win of the season after they went down by 114 runs at Port Talbot Town in South Wales Premier League West.

The home side reached 269-6 after winning the toss and deciding to bat first. Joel Elliott top-scored with 60 before he was run out, with Amit Sharma adding 46 and wicketkeeper Darren Thomas rattling up a quick 31 not out.

They were also helped by the Wanderers conceding no fewer than 61 extras – 45 of which were wides.

Alfie Conick took 2-26 for the visitors.

Port Talbot’s bowlers made early inroads into the Wanderers batting and they were dismissed for 155 at the end of the 39th over.

Joshua-James Crump took 3-39 and only Eddie Byng provided solid resistance with 47.

Ammanford Seconds returned from Stradey Park with a straightforward six-wicket victory over Llanelli.

Having put Llanelli in to bat, the Ammanford bowlers made short work of dismissing the home side for 100 in 27 overs.

Sara Phillips (22) provided Llanelli’s main resistance.

Chief wicket-taker for Ammanford was Matthew Davies with 4-37, while Fin Jeffries, Sam Potter and Iwan Matthews picked up a couple each.

Ammanford overtook the Llanelli total within 23 overs for the loss of four wickets, thanks in the main to opener Eirian Morgan (25).

He found support from Fraser Benjamin (17) and Tiaan Evans (16no).

Player of the match was undoubtedly Llanelli’s Phillips, who crowned a fine all-round performance with figures of 3-29.

Matthew Williams and Alex Thomas shared a partnership of 104 to guide Pontarddulais Seconds to a nine-wicket win over Gorseinon.

Williams scored 51 not out and Thomas was unbeaten on 39 as Bont eased home with more than 19 overs in hand.

Gorseinon had earlier made 137-5, Robert Morgan top-scoring with 57 not out. Theo Rogers took 3-22.
