TEEN STAR HARRI IN WINNING FORM

-

HARRI Reynolds continued his fine form in the Ginetta Junior Race Championship at the second race weekend of the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch.

And the 15-year-old from Narberth extended his title lead in the process.

The rules were tweaked for weekend qualifying, meaning the championship leader – Reynolds – was at the biggest disadvantage as he was first on the track, with his nearest championship rivals following him for three flying laps.

He managed a time just twotenths of a second slower than the fastest car, but it left him ninth on the grid for the opening race.

With championship points more important than the gamble to try to take too many risks, Reynolds drove a steady first race, moving up from his starting position to finish fifth.

Race two was red-flagged early due to an accident. It was won by Japan’s Kanato Le, with Reynolds finishing on the podium in third place in his Assetto Motorsportrun car.

Sunday saw the final, live ITV4 race and the beautiful sunshine from the previous day gave way to showers.

Reynolds started third on the grid, but by the end of the first lap was into the lead and despite the tricky conditions he pulled away from the pack over the next few laps until a safety car period closed the field back up.

He made a good restart but was put under huge pressure by a number of his competitors over the remaining laps. But he did enough to take his first win of the weekend in his Wera Tools-backed car, ahead of second-placed Aqil Alibhai from South Africa.

The next round of the championship is at Thruxton this weekend.
