End-of-life charity open day

-

A LEADING end-of-life care charity wants people to chat to them about the variety on roles on offer at an open day at their offices in Llanelli.

Marie Curie will be hosting the event at its office in Llys Aur, Dafen, from 10am to 2pm on Friday, August 12.

The charity has roles on offer across Wales, including across the Swansea Bay region, as well as roles based in the charity’s office in Dafen, Llanelli and in the Marie Curie Hospice, Cardiff and the Vale in Penarth.

Opportunities range from healthcare assistants, who will support people at home, to coordinators for the HUB, the team responsible for supporting the co-ordination and booking of the care for Marie Curie Services, directly supporting Marie Curie nurses, district nurses, care teams and patients’ families and carers.

Marie Curie’s clinical lead for community services in Wales, Rhian Evans, said: “We want people to come along to chat to us about the different ways you can work for Marie Curie within the clinical team - from being a nurse or healthcare assistant, to supporting those teams with any administrative or coordinator experience you might have.

“Being part of a team which provides care to and supports people with all aspects of death, dying and bereavement is so rewarding, and we’d love the opportunity to explain the impact of our support to people considering joining Marie Curie.”

Fran Jenkins has worked for the charity for four years and said: “I have loved every minute of it.

“I work in the coordination hub where we allocate care and talk to patients and families on a daily basis. This is an extremely rewarding role where you really feel as if you are making a difference.

“Myself and a colleague Sandra Brown, recently attended the Moondance Cancer Awards, as our team was nominated for their dedication and hard work.”

Healthcare assistant Louise James added: “The only way to do a great job is to love what you do. I did not understand this until working for Marie Curie and working and assisting different families to help support them at a difficult time inspires me to provide the best care to all of our patients.”

The open day will be at Unit 2, Llys Aur, Llanelli Gate, SA14 8LQ.
