This week, the spotlight falls on the ladies of Cor Curiad choir in Llanelli, who will be performing with The Overtones at the Selwyn Samuel Centre on Saturday, August 20.

Cor Curiad musical director Alex Esney said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be joining The Overtones on stage as we have fond memories of them headlining a sell-out concert for us a few years back in Llanelli.

“They are fabulous performers and the ladies of Cor Curiad are looking forward to joining them on stage once again.”

The Overtones are a platinumse­lling vocal harmony group made up of Mike Crawshaw, Darren Everest, Mark Franks and Jay James.

They have been touring the UK for their 10th anniversar­y.

The Overtones have been a household name appearing on countless television and radio shows across the UK and Europe including Dancing On Ice, This Morning, BBC Breakfast, ITV’s Lorraine, and BBC Radio2.

The No1 Vocal Harmony Group have racked up multi-platinum record sales, released six studio albums and sold out 11 national tours – firmly establishi­ng them as “one of the UK’s most popular and prolific live acts”.

In other news, a new independen­t arts and music festival takes place in Kidwelly this weekend.

Saturday, August 13, and Sunday, August 14, will see the town host the Gwen Gwen Festival with two stages of music in the town and much more.

Main stage headliners on Saturday will be the band Kosheen, while the Gentleman’s Dub Club round off Sunday.

Signer songwriter Kizzy Crawford headlines the Gwen stage on Saturday and TeiFi will top the bill on that stage on Sunday. She is described as a chameleon mixing funny, bawdy, Welsh-English rap, soulful vocals, lush harmonies, and a bit of dance thrown in.

Award-winning folk band The Meadows will be performing on the Sunday.

The Meadows are a vibrant multi-instrument­alist CelticCros­sover folk band, all drawn from one family.

Bringing cutting-edge techniques and an exciting, contempora­ry vibe to their performanc­es, the band play original works which weave between foot stomping reels to rich vocal harmonies, taking their audiences on a spellbindi­ng journey.

Alfresco shows are returning to Carmarthen­shire this month, as Theatrau Sir Gar hosts a programme of outdoor performanc­es at Pembrey Country Park between August 11 and 23.

The series of events is being called Theatrau Sir Gar yn y Parc, and includes a varied line-up of entertainm­ent featuring two tribute acts, Shape of You – The Music of Ed Sheeran, and Woman Like Me – The Little Mix Show.

Two Proms in the Park concerts, comedy clubs, children’s theatre, live music from the Welsh Whisperer, and an evening of classical music with Welsh tenor Rhys Meirion are just some of the highlights in the calendar.
