Ponty end Town hopes of reaching third round
CARMARTHEN Town bowed out of the Nathaniel MG Cup at the second-round stage when they were beaten 2-0 at Pontypridd United.
This was always going to be a tough test for Mark Aizlewood’s men as Ponty were promoted to the JD Cymru Premier at the end of last season when Llantwit Major were denied a Tier 1 licence.
Town had actually beaten Llantwit in the opening round, but Ponty – who have signed a host of players in readiness for a campaign in the top flight – were likely to be even tougher nuts to crack.
And so it proved as Pontypridd moved comfortably into the next stage.
The home sioe took the lead after 20 minutes with a volley from Rhys Owain Jones.
They were in complete control throughout, and only a superb individual performance from goalkeeper Ifan Knott kept Carmarthen in the game.
But Lewys Twamley’s header put the result beyond doubt.
