Griffiths is the last-gasp hero as Quins feel early heat

-

CARMARTHEN Quins beat Chinnor 26-19 in a pre-season friendly.

In sweltering conditions, the Quins secured victory with a try from the last move of the match.

Chinnor opened the scoring on 11 minutes with a try by fly-half Tom Price, who finished off a move sparked by full-back Nick Smith.

The Quins hit back with a try by scrum-half Rhodri Davies that flyhalf Steff Marshall converted, but the Oxfordshire side led 12-7 at the break after Sam Yawayawa raced over for a score which Price converted.

But the lead didn’t last long as the Quins levelled via a try by prop Ben Leung.

Chinnor took the lead for the third time just after the hour mark when scrum-half Greg Goodfellow drove over from close range. Will Kelly added the extras.

However, the hosts finished the stronger and after levelling the scores at 19-19, Morgan Griffiths scored in the corner to seal victory.

Luke Davies converted for good measure.

The Quins head to Cambridge RFC on Saturday (3pm) for another friendly.

They launch their Indigo Premiership campaign with a home clash against Towy Valley rivals Llandovery on September 3.
