Young side well beaten at St Helen’s

-

CARMARTHEN Wanderers Seconds travelled to St Helen’s for a difficult away match against a strong Swansea side in the South Wales Premier League West 2nd XI division.

Swansea were put in to bat on the damp wicket and made a cautious start against accurate Wanderers spinner Steff Jones. Jones conceded only 18 runs off his nine overs, but thereafter the experienced Swansea side took total control against the young Wanderers attack as Haroon Ali (52), Ioan Webber (100 off 74 balls) and Azrin Azy (85 off 60 balls) cracked boundaries all around the ground.

Eddie Byng (1-43 off 8 overs) and young Zac Harley (3-76 off 8) were the visitors’ only wicket-takers as Swansea closed on 296-4 off 45 overs.

The Wanderers were up against it after tea but reached a respectable 187 all out off 43 overs, Steff Jones (22), Byng (38), Carl Holding (47) and Louie Connick (16) the main contributors.

This Saturday the Seconds host Mumbles, the final game of the year for this young side.
