Defeat, but Wanderers still in good position

-

WITH one match remaining Carmarthen Wanderers retain third place in South Wales Premier 2 despite a six-wicket loss at Trinity Fields against old rivals and leaders Ynystawe on Saturday.

Batting first, the Wanderers total of 118 was well below previous scores batting first at home this season, with Tom Davies (27) and Lewis Byng (23) the main contributors.

In response, having reduced Ynystawe to 41-4 aided by accurate bowling from the Wanderers spearheaded by Owain Binding, who took 3-12 in his 10 overs, there appeared to be a chance of victory but an unbeaten fifth-wicket stand took Ynystawe home.

The match sponsors were Boars Head Hotel, Carmarthen, and Paul Jones, Abergwili.

Wanderers travel to Cowbridge to play their last game of the season this Saturday, with their under-17s playing Bridgend on Friday evening at Pontarddulais in the final of the Junior League.
