Ladies’ Day still a firm favourite at race track

- IAN LEWIS Reporter ian.lewis@walesonline.co.uk

THOUSANDS packed into Ffos Las on Friday for one of the major social events of the year in Carmarthenshire.

The track’s annual Ladies’ Day was hailed as another success by course chiefs, with a crowd of around 5,000 enjoying the start of the bank holiday weekend in style.

And style was the watchword, with prizes handed out for the best-dressed racegoers. Ladies – and men, too, it should be said – added to the occasion with their outfits as the Gwendraeth Valley track provided a fine backdrop.

But many may have come unstuck in their battle with the bookies. Only one of the seven races was won by a favourite – the odds-on shot Tuxedo Junction – while there were no Welsh winners on the day, in itself a rarity at Ffos Las.
