Davies and Jones lead the way as race returns

-

TAF Running and Orienteering hosted the St Clears 10k road race, which was returning after a two-year absence.

The men’s race was won by Amman Valley Harrier Rob Davies by nearly a minute from Llanelli’s Dean Summers.

The race attracted 120 runners, with 34 from the host club taking up the challenge of the undulating course between St Clears and Llangynin.

Nerys Jones kept all 33 of her clubmates behind her as she crossed the line in ninth overall, the first female finisher by four minutes from Sarn Helen’s Caryl Davies.

Although just 10 seconds over the 40-minute barrier, Jones’s time was the second fastest for a woman in the history of the event, just 18 seconds off the course record set by Ann Thomas in 2008.

She was closely followed by Luke Evans in 10th and Aled Jones-Davies in 11th.
