Hunt is on for people who ‘love telly’

-

S4C is searching for people to take part in its new series, Gogglebocs Cymru.

Last month it was announced a Welsh language version of the popular TV show Gogglebox would be made.

The Welsh language spin-off will be aired in the first week of November this year to coincide with the channel’s 40th birthday. This is the first time Studio Lambert and Channel 4 have licensed the popular franchise to another UK based broadcaster.

70% of the content will be bilingual Wales-based programming, such as content from S4C itself, as well as ITV Wales and BBC Wales. While the remaining 30% will be coming from UK broadcasters and SVoDs (subscription video on demand services), which may include content from Netflix or HBO Max.

In the lead up to its production, S4C has now made a call for casting and is asking Welsh language speakers of all level to take part. A spokesperson for the channel said: “The producers are looking for people from all walks of life who just love telly!

“We want Welsh speakers, fluent or not so fluent, who will represent the rich diversity of Wales and its diaspora.”

S4C’s chief content officer, Llinos Griffin-Williams, said that Gogglebocs Cymru is set to be a “game changer” for the channel.

“We are thrilled the hit format has been entrusted to us by Channel 4 and that two of Wales’s dynamic indies are coming together to deliver this familiar, much-loved show, “she said.

“We’re looking for a cast of exciting characters that truly represent a diverse modern Wales. Gogglebox is a brilliant TV format that captures the hearts and minds of a country. We want S4C to be an inclusive exciting home for the very best of world class content that belongs to the whole nation.”
