Otters open with victory
NARBERTH got their Championship season under way with a 16-3 victory over Ystrad Rhondda.
The Otters opened the scoring through a penalty by full-back Nick Gale.
The visitors levelled on the halfhour mark with a penalty of their own, but Narberth were soon ahead again as Gale added two more penalties to give his side a 9-3 advantage at the break.
The crucial try came midway through the second half when Lewis Gibby cut through and crossed under the posts for a converted try.
Narberth backs coach Deiniol Evans said: “It was always going to be a tight game, and it was difficult to control the ball in the conditions of strong wind and rain.”
Meanwhile, Narberth Youth kicked off the new season with a 26-17 victory over visitors Aberystwyth.
Narberth scored first with the hard-running Joel Davies crashing over under the posts. This was followed by two further tries from good line-out work for Yori Morgan and Tom Monk.
Aberystwyth replied with two wellworked tries to make the score 19-12 at half-time.
But another try from the tireless Morgan then sealed matters for the Otters.
Shay Norcross kicked one conversion and Jack Perrins two.
