-

COMMONWEALTH Games ace Sara Nicholls led the ladies of Llandeilo Bowling Club to a Carmarthenshire County grand slam by winning five County competitions.

Nicholls, playing for Wales, reached the quarter-finals of the Commonwealth women’s pairs with partner Caroline Taylor. They missed out on a semi-final spot when beaten 16-15 by New Zealand.

She has since led Llandeilo to victory in the Carmarthenshire Ladies’ Bowling Association County finals.

Nicholls claimed a resounding 21-7 victory over Llanelli in a highquality singles final.

Then paired with Jean Stancer, Nicholls took on Llangennech and Bryn in the Pairs final. Llandeilo took an early lead and held on to win 20-10 despite a spirited defence by their opponents.

Nicholls and Stancer were joined in the Triples by Ena Williams, with the matches played in intense heat.

A tight 22-17 win was secured by the Llandeilo trio over Ammanford in the Two-wood Triples, before a more convincing 18-8 victory over Cross Hands in the Three-wood Triples.

The last final to be played was the rinks in Parc Howard, with Nicholls leading a team comprising Lynda James, Mary James and Ena Williams.

In a thrilling and closely contested match, Llandeilo got the measure of the green in the second half of the contest and nudged ahead to take the game 23-21 on the last end.

Nicholls took the CLBA Victrix Ludorum Trophy for her outstanding performance during the 2022 season.

Trophies will be awarded to this year’s winners at the CLBA AGM and dinner on October 16 in the Selwyn Samuel Centre in Llanelli.
