Cwm suffer shock exit

-

CWMAMMAN United exited the FAW Trophy when they lost 3-2 at home to Swansea side Brynawel FC.

The visitors were quickly out of the blocks. Cwm were caught cold as hesitancy from a corner saw James Barratt calmly loop the ball over keeper Kai Rees.

While Cwm started to dominate possession, the pressing of Brynawel ensured that the hosts struggled to fully test David Begley in the Brynawel goal.

With Charlie Davies and Kyle Ashford prompting attacks, the first half came to a close with a frustrated Cwm wondering how they could break down a resilient defence.

Cwm started after the restart on the offensive, with Begley making some good saves. Brynawel were relying more on counter-attacks as Cory Saunders caused them problems with his crosses from wide out.

Cwm began to get on top and it looked as if they had rescued the game with a brace of goals from Kieran Richards in the 55th and 77th minutes.

But Brynawel had not finished and substitute Chakhri Phromchantha, who had caused issues for the home side with his pace and skill, steered a freekick from the edge of the box into the net in the 79th minute.

He then earned a penalty for his side a minute later when he was brought down in the box. Jack Hammacott put it away, and even though Brynawel were put under pressure their defence held out for a fine win.

Cwm are in knockout action again on Saturday as they entertain Abertillery Bluebirds in the Ardal League Cup at Grenig Park (2.30pm).
