FOUR dirt bikes have been seized by police in Llanelli after a crackdown on antisocial behaviour.

Two of the bikes were taken in by police in the Ann Street area and its park, a further two were seized elsewhere in the town.

The action comes after months of misery for some residents.

Those living locally said a gang had been occupying the bank on Ann Street Park and screaming and shouting into the night and riding bikes.

Over the summer, Tyisha ward town and county councillor Suzy Curry called for police and wardens to be “extra vigilant” to catch the culprits responsible for the antisocial behaviour at Ann Street and its park.

It followed the area being hounded by an ‘unruly gang’ of youths lighting fires, committing vandalism, making noise and riding the bikes and also e-scooters at all hours.

Cllr Suzy Curry said she welcomes the moves to seize bikes and worked alongside police to help this happen.

“I provided video evidence from local people who were living with this antisocial behaviour, and two of the bikes were seized from the area and I hear two more have been seized too. That’s exactly what I was calling for over the summer, more enforcement, so all power to the police on this.

“Aside from the noise and disturbances the bikes were causing, there was a fear that people living locally could have been hurt and those youngsters on the bikes too, so I’m pleased to see the police taking action.”

Cllr Curry hopes the recent police action will send a message that antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team is working with partners to tackle anti-social behaviour in Llanelli.

Sergeant Stuart Davies said: “I can reassure residents that we are listening to their concerns and taking positive action to address those concerns. In recent weeks four off road bikes have been seized under the road traffic act and the offenders will be prosecuted.

“The Neighbourhood Policing Team will continue to target patrols in line with issues highlighted by the community, and welcomes and appreciates all information and conversations with the community, and would encourage anyone to report all incidents to us.”
