TOWN TO SERVE FOODIE DELIGHT

- Reporter ian.lewis@walesonline.co.uk

ONE of the biggest events in Llanelli’s calendar is set to return on Saturday.

The Llanelli Food and Drink Festival is due to take over the town centre for what promises to be a mouthwatering day out for the whole family.

Foodies from far and wide will descend upon Stepney Street and Vaughan Street between 9am to 5pm to sample the delights on offer from hot street food vendors and artisan producers, including sweet treats, pastries, chutneys, various alcoholic drinks and much more.

Lesley Richards, chair of Ymlaen Llanelli Bid, is excited about the prospect of another bustling day in the town centre and said: “Llanelli Food and Drink Festival is always one of the busiest events of the year, and we’ve been working hard this year to get the biggest and best range of producers we’ve ever had.

“There’s something for everyone to enjoy, from the huge load of food on offer to activities for the kids and even some tipple for the adults.

“We know the people of Llanelli love a good festival and we hope they think this is a great one.”

The festival is organised by Ymlaen Llanelli, the town centre’s Bid (Business Improvement District), and is supported by Llanelli Town Council and Food and Drink Wales.

There will also be a host of free activities going on elsewhere throughout the town in conjunction with the event, and festival-goers can enjoy the whole day with free parking in all Carmarthenshire Council-owned car parks in the town centre.

Of course, it wouldn’t be an Ymlaen Llanelli festival without some music, and this year the Stepney Square stage will boast the talents of Sarah Kate Lewis-Meredith, Chris Keys, Sam Couch, Emma, Woolfy, and the Moonshine Duo.

Free activities on the day include autumn wreath-making at the Annibendod craft bus on Bridge

Street, and there’s a chance to get stuck in and make your own beastly biscuits and pumpkin-flavoured bread rolls with A Taste of Times Past in St Elli Shopping Centre, both taking place between 10am and 4pm.

Coleg Sir Gar will be pitched up on Bridge Street with live cookery demonstrations from their Cook24 project, which will see industry chefs crafting meals using local produce from 9am to 5pm.

Further afield, the town’s Selwyn Samuel Centre will be holding its Autumn Fayre from 11am to 3pm, while Threshold will be hosting its monthly Repair Cafe from 10am to 1pm in their John Street office.

Llanelli Food and Drink Festival is free to attend, and the full line-up of traders for the event can be found on Ymlaen Llanelli’s social media.

A variety of producers from the festival will return for the next Llanelli Monthly Food Market on Saturday, November 19, while Ymlaen Llanelli will be back with its final event of the year, the Llanelli Reindeer Parade, on Saturday, December 3.
