ReKindle the passion
But a cool new ereader is just one of the stars of Amazon’s latest devices drop. We take a closer look
TYPICAL – you wait months for an Amazon product launch then three come along at once.
In recent weeks we’ve seen a new Kindle, and a new Fire tablet from the online retail giant.
But this week we have news of a motherlode of a new device drop from Amazon.
Here’s what’s coming….
Kindle Scribe
The biggest deal of the new stuff is a new kind of Kindle – one you can write on.
The Scribe does all the things your regular Kindle can do on its 10.2in 300dpi e-ink screen, so good for reading books from the Kindle store.
But it also comes with a pen that you can write on the screen with. This isn’t really for drawing, though. It’s all about writing – note-taking and annotating text.
Amazon says the display has been engineered to feel like you’re writing on paper.
The Scribe is released on November 30 and will start at £329.99. You can order one now.
New Echoes
Perhaps a little less interesting is the range of new Echoes Amazon revealed – a new Dot comes with enhanced audio that boosts the bass.
There’s the standard version at £54.99, one with a clock for £10 more, and a kids’ version with a couple of new covers and a free year of Amazon Kids+, also for £65.99. Amazon also revealed a software update for its £189.99 high-end Echo Studio speaker, which brings spatial audio processing to the party. The new Dots will be out on November 20, but you can order them now.
Fire TV
Amazon had a few surprises in store with its Fire TV range of products – there’s an all-new Cube for a start.
It’s the third generation of the device, and offers a faster processor for smoother display.
Fire TV Cube can be controlled entirely hands-free with Alexa and includes support for cinematic 4K
Ultra HD, Dolby Vision, HDR, immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
It’ll cost £139 when it’s released on November 27 and can also be ordered now.
Other Fire TV news saw the software make its debut on an Echo device – you can now switch your Echo Show 15 to Fire mode and use it like a TV. There’s also a new Fire TV remote at £34.99 (out
on November 16), which features backlit customisable buttons and a finder system if you lose it somewhere.
Ring the changes
Amazon’s security cameras also got an update with two new spotlight cams. Spotlight Cam Pro offers advanced motion settings, with features including 3D Motion Detection, and Audio+ with crisp, clear sound.
The battery-powered Pro starts at £199.99. Solar and wired options will be available soon.
Ring Spotlight Cam Plus introduces a new, sleek look, and dual power options, allowing customers to easily switch between plug-in and battery power modes. It starts at £179.99. Both cameras will be released on October 26.
