Fine point for Cwm at high-flying Mumbles

CWMAMMAN United claimed a creditable draw at Mumbles Rangers in Ardal League South West.

The Swansea side started the day lying second in the table, so Cwm knew they would have to be at their best if they were to head home with points in the bag.

And they began on the attack and maintained the momentum for pretty much most of the match.

Cwm had a number of early free-kicks around the Mumbles penalty area and Charlie Davies saw one effort fizz just over the bar.

With Ross Morgan, Davies and Kyle Ashford dominating midfield, Cwm kept pressing and the Mumbles goalkeeper made some excellent saves from Keiran Richards and Gwion Howell.

Calem Rees almost opened the scoring when his shot was cleared in a goalmouth scramble.

The experienced Mumbles attack was always likely to be a threat and Kai Rees made a fine save from a James Loveridge shot just before half-time.

Cwm kept up the momentum after the break.

Callum Dougal and Grant Rees shone in the heart of defence, while Leon Croucher and Cory Saunders launched a series of attacks.

Cwm finally took the lead in the 71st minute when a Morgan shot beat stranded goalkeeper Sam Goodwin.

Cwm looked to be in control, but were stung by a double setback.

Firstly Ricky Kerr fired high into the net from the edge of the area to level the scores, then a Loveridge pass saw Elliot Smith tap home in the 81st minute to unexpectedly give Mumbles the advantage.

Cwm’s heads did not drop and they went straight back at Mumbles.

And they were rewarded in the closing moments of the contest when Sion Dafydd Williams equalised.

An incredible 13 minutes of additional time saw Cwm look for a winner.

They had a number of excellent opportunities to claim the points, but in the end the match ended all-square. Cwm now lie 12th in the table.

On Saturday Cwm host Dinas Powys at 2.30pm.

There is also a stand-naming ceremony at 2pm in honour of Raymond Jones and Graham Jones.
