-

THE brilliant Jo Thomas netted twice for Drefach, who beat visiting Ponthenri 4-1 in the first round of the Picton Sports Challenge Cup.

Drefach had most of the possession in the Gwendraeth Valley derby and made it count with two more goals from Trystan Bateman and Chris Gregory.

The visitors replied through Anthony Williams.

Also through to the next round are FC Carmarthen, for whom Tim Walters, Lewis Byng, Jordan Archer and Gavin Rees scored in the 4-1 win at home to Llansteffan.

Although the seasiders were outplayed, they did manage a consolation goal from Ken Iggabiri.

Striker Alex Kay scored four of the goals for Kidwelly Town, who stormed to a 7-2 win at Llandeilo Town in the same stage of the competition.

Also on target were Dai Thomas, Jordan Howells and Jethro Smith.

Llanerch Rovers made a bright start to the tie at home to CP Suburbs, taking the lead in the ninth minute through Jay Husbands. Eight minutes later it was 2-0 thanks to Mike Hoxley, and that’s how it stood at halftime.

Although Darren Moud pulled a goal back in the 53rd minute, Peter Donnelly restored the two-goal cushion seven minutes later.

Garan Davies scored the first of his two goals to extend the advantage in the 69th minute, before Mould grabbed his second for CP Suburbs in the 73rd minute.

Llanerch eventually put the tie to bed through late goals from Husbands and Hoxley in the 85th and 92nd minutes.

It took 120 minutes to settle the outcome between Ferryside and visiting Pontarddulais Town Reserves. James Yarnton gave Ferryside the lead, only for the advantage to be cancelled out.

But the same player grabbed the winner to make it 2-1.

Caerbryn cruised into the next round with a 5-0 win at home to Johnstown. Stuart Dunn scored in each half for the hosts, and there were also goals for Matthew Howell, Rhys Morgan and Cameron Jones

Hughes.

There was also one tie in the second round of the competition, and it ended in a 9-1 win for Llandovery Town against visiting Ammanford AFC Development.

Mark Dyer led the way with a hattrick. Chris Hyde scored two of the goals – one a penalty – and there was one each for Ryan Bailey, Scott Rees, Rhys Kelly and Dan Pearce.

The visitors stuck to their task and were rewarded with a goal by Yusuf Aslam.

Second-placed Pengelli United remain three points behind Pontlliw following a hard-fought 4-2 win against visiting Burry Port.

A couple of goals by Luke Rees plus one each from Craig Jones and Kieran Burder were enough to secure the points. Port hit back through Charlie Taylor and Ceri Evans.

Striker Chris Ferrier scored four goals for Trallwm, who trounced visiting Pwll Athletic 13-2.

Shane Price (3), Wesley Smith and Jacob Powes (2 each), and Jarred Peake and Stephen Evans got the goals.

With Caerbryn in cup action, Camford Sports moved to the top of division two following a hard-earned 2-1 win at Pembrey.

It wasn’t easy, but Camford eventually edged it thanks to goals from Jack Roberts and Shaun Roberts.

In reserve division one, there was a fourth defeat in four outings for bottom club Dafen A, who went down 2-1 at home to Pengelli United Reserves, for whom Jordan Thomas and Niall Harrington scored.

After winning their first four games in the league, Trallwm suffered a first defeat when beaten 5-1 at Camford Sports in reserve division two.

Damian Walters struck twice for the home side, and there were also goals for Kaley Tinnuche, Michal Mulica and Aled Thomas.

It was a surprisingly below-par display by Trallwm, who only managed a Ben Williams consolation goal.

In reserve division three, Adam King scored in each half for leaders Caerbryn, who won 5-3 at Kidwelly Town. Dylan Thomas also netted twice, and there was one goal for Shayne Clarke.
