Couple celebrate 70th anniversary

A CARMARTHENSHIRE couple have marked seven decades of married life together.

Esme and Ron Bird, from Pembrey, met when Ron visited Trimsaran on leave from the Army.

They were married in Sardis Chapel, Trimsaran, on October 18, 1952, before moving to Bristol, where Ron is originally from.

The couple returned to Wales in 1966 to keep the Square and Compass pub in Pontyates for a few years.

They have two sons, Garry and Stuart, three grandchildren, Warren, Johnathon and Danielle, as well as two great-grandchildren, Milo and Nico.
