A Hi Simon. Autumn is a good time to put fertiliser around them. You can also apply in spring. Chicken pellets are high in nitrogen, which is great for leafy growth. But for your perennials, I’d also recommend topping up using a balanced feed that will have phosphorous and potassium to encourage root and flower development.
