Williams geared up for rally success in season finale

-

JAMES Williams is geared up for the final round of the Motorsport UK British Rally Championship this weekend.

The Newcastle Emlyn driver’s Hyundai Power Products Rally team are gunning for victory on the Visit Conwy Cambrian Rally, which takes place on October 28-29.

The opening night features two asphalt tests under darkness before a full day in the Welsh forests.

Williams, 24, has notched up three podiums this season on the sealed surface and will be looking to make amends on the gravel this weekend as he goes in search of his first outright BRC win.

“It’s been a real baptism for our first year in the BRC top flight,” said Williams.

“We have had some incredible highs and some disappointing lows, but I am really proud of all the team as we have always picked ourselves up and bounced back, giving every event our full focus.

“We have ticked off every step of the podium bar one, so that will be the target – go for the win, and to fight for our first BRC victory on home soil will be pretty special.”

The final round of the championship will see a few absences, with recently-crowned champion Osian Pryce and four-time title winner Keith Cronin missing from the entry list.

However, the Cambrian Rally will welcome World Rally Championship driver Oliver Solberg to the cast.

“It’s a little disappointing that some of the guys aren’t showing up for the Cambrian, but with the championship wrapped up and the expense to run these cars and enter these events getting higher, I completely get it,” added Williams.

“The competition will still be pretty hot.

“Everyone will be looking at Oliver as the benchmark, but there are some quick guys in the BRC who could take it to him.

“I really want to be fighting at the sharp end on the final event.”
