BOWLS CLUB BAGS SUCCESS

-

THE 2022 bowls season finished on a high note for Llandeilo Bowling Club.

Among the highlights was President’s Day. This year’s president is Commonwealth Games star Sara Nicholls, and a barbecue was held at the club.

Nicholls presented a cheque for £250 on behalf of the club to Cllr Edward Thomas and Lesley Prosser, chair of the Llandeilo and District Dementia Group.

A further donation of £190 was made to Many Tears dog rescue, the president’s chosen charity.

LBC finals were played off to determine club winners. The fun “spider” competition, traditionally played on President’s Day, was won by Lynda James.

LBC’s annual dinner took place at the Plough Hotel and Restaurant, when cups and trophies were awarded.

Club secretary Richard Davies was presented with a silver plate in recognition of his contribution during the last year.

The David Groves Pairs trophy was won by Doug Davies and John Vanlandewyck. The Alf and Nest Pairs trophy went to King Jones and Jean Stancer. The president’s prize was taken by Richard Palmer.

The Plough Cup presented by Amanda Cheek on behalf of the hotel was awarded to Richard Palmer.

LBC champion of the year was Richard Palmer, in his first year playing lawn bowls.

Llandeilo’s ladies brought home an unprecedented six trophies from the Carmarthenshire Ladies’ Bowling Association finals. To mark their success, the ladies who played were presented with a bunch of yellow roses.

The men also improved their position in the league.

Nicholls was congratulated on reaching the quarter-finals at the Commonwealth Games where she missed out on a medal by one point on the final end in her game against New Zealand.
