QI want to make changes to my Will. How can I change my Will – can I cross out the changes and write a new provision in?

APlease do not mark your Will in any way. You should not cross out any part of the Will or write on it as this could create an issue in proving the Will with the Probate Registry in the future.

Your current Will remains in place until a new Will or Codicil is properly executed. A Codicil is an addition to your current Will and is the document that will make changes to your current Will.

If you would like to change to your Will, during our appointment we would discuss the relevant changes that you would like to make, and we will discuss with you whether your old Will should be revoked and a new Will drafted or whether a Codicil would be more appropriate.

This appointment can either take place in one of our offices or we can make arrangements to visit you at home. Both a Will and Codicil have to be signed in the presence of two independent witnesses to become valid.

If you would like assistance from our Wills and Probate Department to make changes to your Will or to draft a Will, please do not hesitate to get in touch by telephone on 01554 755101 or by email on contactus@gomerwilliams.co.uk.
