PLANT OF THE WEEK
LIRIOPE
In the last couple of years I’ve established a small colony of liriope under a Japanese maple. Also known as lily turf, it’s an evergreen perennial that does well in the shade, even in dry conditions. It has strappy grass-like foliage and these gorgeous purple spikes of flowers at this time of year. It doesn’t require much maintenance beyond cutting back any damaged bits of grass and it can be lifted and divided in spring if required.
