DOCTOR’S NOTE
A new wearable device could help stroke and MS sufferers to walk using artificial intelligence (AI).
The Cionic Neural Sleeve wraps around the leg and detects whether the person is moving symmetrically. If their movements are out of sync it corrects their gait using electrodes that send a signal to the muscles to tell them what sequence to move in.
After wearing the sleeve, the brain should learn the sequence and stop needing to be aided by the device.
As well as correcting gait, trials have shown it also helps to reduce pain from walking incorrectly, and can even lower anxiety and depression.
