Cwm suffer away defeat

-

CWMAMMAN United suffered a 3-1 defeat at Caerau Ely in Ardal League South West.

Cwm travelled to Cardiff hoping they could handle the powerful Caerau attack, while hopefully creating opportunities of their own.

For a while it looked as if that was the case as the midfield of Charlie Davies, Ross Davies and Kyle Ashford ensured Cwm had a share of the game, while building attacks that also tested the Caerau defence.

In difficult, wet conditions, both sides were looking to open the game up but it eventually took a mistake to open the scoring when a cross from the left saw Cwm’s Chris Dunkley mishandle and Hywel Davies toe-poked the ball home.

Cwm immediately hit back, launching attacks with Calem Rees and Kieran Richards pressing hard. But they conceded a free-kick outside their box and Calum Bateman stepped up and fired the ball like a rocket past the wall to make it 2-0.

The game ebbed and flowed and just before half-time a patient build-up by Cwmamman saw Gwion Howell skilfully stroke the ball past Josh Murray in the Caerau goal to halve the deficit.

Cwm were now back in the game and both sides pushed for the next critical goal.

Ronan Templeton and Grant Rees were resolute against the strong Caerau strikers, limiting their chances, and Cwm could sense an equaliser.

But late on, as they looked to build from the back, hesitancy in their own goal area saw Liam Bishop pounce for the goal that clinched victory for the hosts.

Cwm, who now lie 14th in the table, will use this week’s break from action to consider how they can turn these good performances into much-needed points.
