Numis names banker as new chair

- Michael Bow

ONE of the City’s top bankers, former Cazenove equity chief Alan Carruthers, has been unveiled as Numis’s new chairman.

The 54-year old will replace Gerald Corbett, who was chief executive of Railtrack in the late Nineties.

Carruthers was one of the top bankers at Cazenove, widely assumed to be the Queen’s stockbroker, before its takeover by US giant JPMorgan. “Numis has established itself as one of the UK’s most respected broking and advisory businesses,” he said.

The hire is part of a shake-up at the broker, which saw the appointment of co-chief executives Alex Ham and Ross Mitchinson last year.

Numis’ founder and former chief executive Oliver Hemsley stepped down from the frontline last year to join the board as executive director. @signorbow
