Reservists deliver stock to food bank
RESERVE members of the Armed Forces delivered more than £500 worth of stock to a Loughborough-based food bank.
Typhoon Squadron officer cadets, who study engineering at Loughborough University, donated 10 parcels full of food items and essentials to The Bridge, situated in Leicester Road, Loughborough.
The Bridge delivers a number of housing related services, including distributing food parcels, to homeless and vulnerably housed people in and around the borough.
The Typhoon Squadron parcels were collected and funded by the officer cadets as part of an outreach programme - which sees them help those in the local community.
Warrant Officer Class 2 Ish Young told the Echo: “It was partially my idea as I was driving back through Loughborough one day when I got stuck in traffic and I saw a crowd of people outside The Bridge.
“I got the idea as it reminded me of serving with the UN in Bosnia in 1994 as part of Operation Grapple as we would deliver medical supplies to children’s hospitals.
“It was good for the students to deliver to the establishment and have some hands-on involvement.”
He added: “We’re aiming to establish a more stable relationship with The Bridge and look to other locallybased organisations in Loughborough.”
Paul Snape, business development manager at The Bridge East Midlands told the Echo: “The support from the Typhoon Squadron has enabled The Bridge to provide food parcels to individuals who are in crisis and need some additional support.
“We are grateful for the donation and would like to thank all involved with the collection.
“We look forward to working with the Squadron more closely.”
