Student house plans withdrawn

A PLANNING application to create a 12 bedroom luxury student house in Park Road, Loughborough, was withdrawn from a committee meeting after it was not made clear to councillors that the houses were already student houses.

The application proposed to convert 97 and 99 Park Road, Loughborough, into one student property.

Currently they are two large mid-terraced dwellings, with a combined nine bedrooms but an extension to the house would create three more bedrooms.

Even though the planning application is yet to be heard, the property is currently advertised on the website of student estate agent Clan Living, and states that the house will include a hot tub, cinema room, en suite bathrooms, designer furniture and a table tennis table.

However it does state: “This house has not yet been renovated.”

The application was withdrawn the day before the meeting to be held on Thurs- day, March 9. At the committee meeting head of planning Coun Brian Page read out a statement from Charnwood Borough Council that said: “Following receipt of legal advice, the committee is advised that this application should be withdrawn.

“This is because the description of the proposal requires amendment and readvertising to make it clear that the two properties are currently in Residential (Class C4) HMO use not Residential (Class C3) dwelling house use as currently identified in the report.”

Both Coun Margaret Smidowicz and Coun Ted Parton objected to the initial application on the grounds of noise and disturbance, community imbalance and lack of parking.

Charnwood Borough Council also received 19 letters of objection from local residents and a petition with 27 signatures against the proposal.

The planning committee said that the application would be heard at a later date.

The application number is P/16/1900/2.
