FAIRFIELD Preparatory School has officially opened its new £8m expansion that will help more than 500 pupils benefit from state-of-the-art teaching facilities.

The new development at the Leicester Road school in Loughborough was opened on Friday, March 10, by Simon Timson, a former pupil and now performance director at the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and British Tennis, as school governors and the Mayor and Mayoress of Charnwood watched him cut the ribbon.

Fairfield Preparatory School is part of the Loughborough Endowed Schools and the expansion features spacious classrooms equipped with touch screen interactive TVs, a large gymnasium, specialist rooms for arts, crafts, food technology, and a PrePrep performance space.

More than 500 pupils will benefit from the expansion which was needed to cater for the increasing demand for places in Fairfield’s Pre-Prep (4-7 years) department.

Andrew Earnshaw, Headmaster at Fairfield said: “Fairfield Preparatory School is more than just a school – it is a place to build new hopes and dreams.

“I am so proud to be Headmaster; it really is the best job in the world.

“The building project has provided Fairfield with an unrivalled environment to encourage pupils to build on their aspirations, make new memories and forge lifelong friendships.”

Some of the children at Fairfield were asked what they thought of their new classrooms and what their favourite new part of the school was.

Rishi said: “In the library there are lots of teddies so we can cuddle up and read a story. You can scan your own book and the computer sings ‘Happy Birthday’ on your birthday.”

While Layla liked the way everyone was looking after the new school she said: “I like the way everyone takes care of our new building and keeps it clean. It makes me feel proud” and Mia thought that everyone loved the new parts of the school and said “Everyone has got a smile on their faces, everyone is happy.”

Another new addition is The Kindergarten which has room for 40 pupils and allows Loughborough Endowed Schools to educate pupils from three years to sixth form.

The new building incorporates innovative technologies to achieve the lowest environmental footprint possible, including the use of rainwater harvesting, heat exchange systems, solar and photovoltaic energy production and passive heating and ventilation systems.
